Preparing Your
Property For Roof Installation
Roofer Longwood FL companies will give you a list of materials
that will be required for installation procedures. Some companies will supply
you with a complete set of materials and instructions on what to do to each item
in the set. Some roofing companies may provide you with the materials as a
partial set of materials, depending on your budget and requirement. A roof
installation is not necessarily a complicated project, although it does involve
a few preparations before the installation begins.
A week or two before installation day, prepare all tools,
materials and equipment needed for the installation. Some roofers will bring a
dump truck full of materials to the property and deliver it to your house for
one to two days prior to the installation. If your roofing company is recycling
your old shingles, a secondary dumpster may also be brought to the property to
recycle the old roofing material. This is a good practice for homeowners who do
not want to add a layer of asphalt shingle over top of the existing roof. The
recycled shingle will last for years and will be easier to install over top of
the existing roof. You can ask your roofer if he will recycle your shingles or
if he can recommend a company that will.
It will be necessary to prepare the area around the house and
around the building by removing debris and weeds from the area where the
building is located, including fences, bushes and trees, depending on the
different types of buildings in your neighborhood. Prepare a clean area where
your contractor will start by laying down a temporary foundation on the ground.
A strong foundation is vital because the final roof installation will sit
directly on the base of the roof. This will ensure that there is no movement of
the material from the base into the final roof.
The concrete base is poured first and the other materials are
added in stages as the concrete dries. If your roof has a sloped roof, the
concrete must be placed on the backside of the slope to prevent the water from
pooling on top of the sloped roof. The concrete must be waterproofed with a
waterproof coat prior to being poured over the top of the existing roof.
Once the base is dry, the roof covering material is installed
around the perimeter of the building. The shingles and any other covering
materials such as rafters and gutter are then installed on top of the existing
roof. Be sure that the rafters and gutter are connected properly to the rafters
and gutter. and gutter so that water cannot pool on top of the roof. If this is
the case, make sure the connection is smooth and leak-proof.
After the roof covering is installed, the roof is tied back
together at the rafter joints. The roof covers the entire area surrounding the
building and the roof is attached to the building using rafter clamps.
The roof will be left to dry overnight and the following day the
roofing contractor will remove the coverings. If any of the roofing materials
have been used, they will be disposed of at the end of the work day. It will be
necessary to empty the garage and shed, or at least the attic.
After the roof is installed, the roof should be checked and
re-assembled to ensure it is dry and level. The base and any damaged areas
should be repaired prior to reinstalling the roofing materials. The roofing
contractor will check for leaks and signs of moisture.
